Osteoporosis Center/Bone Density Testing
Barnabas Health Ambulatory Care Center
Osteoporosis, a disease that makes bones more fragile and likely to break,
is a major public health threat for 44 million Americans. Called
the silent thief, it progresses without symptoms or pain until a fracture occurs, typically
in the hip, spine, or wrist. Each year it leads to more than 1.5 million
fractures that can sometimes cause permanent disability. You could have
osteoporosis, or be at risk for developing it without knowing it.
Bone density testing is a safe, quick, non-invasive, painless procedure which detects the disease at its earliest stages, when treatment is most effective. Our center is equipped with two DEXA (Dual Energy X-Ray Absorpteometry) scanners, the most advanced densitometry equipment available. Because of its accuracy, low x-ray exposure and ability to measure both hip and spine, it is considered the gold standard of bone density measurements. These tests are also the only means of monitoring the success of treatment or detecting the effects of other conditions or medications that can damage the skeleton.
Testing your bone density – how strong your bones are – through a DEXA scan is the only way to know for sure if you have osteoporosis. To schedule a DEXA scan, please call 973-322-7888.
To expedite your registration, please complete this Bone Densitometry Questionnaire and bring to your appointment.
The Osteoporosis Center located at the Barnabas Health Ambulatory Care Center provides the most advanced diagnosis of osteoporosis in New Jersey. We perform over 9,500 bone density tests a year. Our technologists are trained and certified in bone densitometry by the International Society of Clinical Densitometry (ISCD). Comprehensive reports, prepared by ISCD-certified physicians, who are clinical experts in the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis, are provided to both patient and referring physicians.
