Breast Care & Mammography

For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 908-704-3740. The Sanofi US Breast Care Program accepts self-referrals for annual screening mammograms.

The Sanofi US Breast Care Program at The Steeplechase Cancer Center is dedicated to breast cancer prevention and early detection, giving women the best chance for successful treatment and potential cure.

The program's expert staff has extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer, performing more screenings, diagnostic mammograms and breast biopsies than most other breast care centers in the state. The program has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology and it meets the Food and Drug Administration's strict standards. Since the beginning of 2010, the Breast Care Program has been accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, demonstrating outstanding achievement in quality standards.

The program, located on the third floor of the cancer center, offers comprehensive, personalized breast health services from routine screenings to complex diagnostic procedures and treatment evaluations by using the latest technology the field has to offer, including breast tomosynthesis or 3D mammography. The team is led by fellowship trained breast radiologists and breast surgeons who collaborate and discuss findings to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Free mammograms are available for women who are living on a limited income or who are uninsured or underinsured. Funding is provided through a grant from the New Jersey Cancer Education and Early Detection Program. For more information about eligibility requirements, call the Somerset County grant administrator, at 908-526-2335, ext. 19.

Bone Scan

Breast cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy and hormonal therapy with aromatase inhibitors, can impact your bone health. Before you start your treatment, your doctor may recommend a Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) scan for a baseline assessment of your bone density. This scan may be repeated after your treatment to determine if you have had any bone loss. It is also recommended that women over age 65 have a bone density scan to screen for osteoporosis.

Screening exams, such as bone density testing, are covered by Medicare and most major insurance plans.
