About Us

Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus (MMCSC), founded in 1913 and located in Lakewood, is a fully accredited acute care hospital dedicated to providing the finest medical and health care services to the residents of Ocean and Monmouth counties. MMCSC is a sister hospital to Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch.

MMCSC is the only hospital in the region to provide private rooms on all of its inpatient units, providing an environment more conducive to healing. In addition, several other enhancements have been made to provide superior service to Lakewood and the surrounding region including the creation of the Better Health Senior Membership Program which provides seniors VIP access to social programs, health education, preventive screenings, and more.

As a longtime leader in geriatric medicine, MMCSC recently opened their one‐of‐a‐kind James and Sharon Maida Geriatrics Institute which provides integrated inpatient and outpatient geriatric services for patients 65 and older, in one convenient location. With the many interlinked services, the experts at the Geriatrics Institute provide individualized care recommendations to ensure that patients receive the special care they require, without interfering with their independence. Their geriatricians have a full understanding of a wide range of physical, mental, medical, social and spiritual issues that older adults can face. The multidisciplinary team also includes nurses, social workers, nutritionists, pharmacists, health educators, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and audiologists, all who specialize in the care of seniors and are available to accommodate the needs of patients as they transition from inpatient to outpatient care.

The newly enhanced breast center at MMCSC now offers screening and diagnostic 3D and 2D mammography and breast ultrasound and MRI, breast surgery consultation, and high‐risk cancer assessment while the recently developed Oncology Rehabilitation Program is available to all cancer patients and survivors in need, whether they are newly diagnosed, currently undergoing chemotherapy, or long finished with treatment. Many cancer patients and survivors are dealing with a wide range of effects from treatment including fatigue, weakness, poor endurance, and more. The Oncology Rehabilitation Program allows these patients to regain their independence with a customized plan to address and treat specific symptoms. This program coincides with the opening of the Cancer Support Community (CSC), which is available to anyone affected by cancer—the patient, family, friends, and caregivers—in Monmouth and Ocean counties. These individuals can access programs and services offered by CSC for free, regardless of where they’re treated. Other specialties include: emergency services, cardiac services, wound care and hyperbaric medicine, behavioral health, vascular imaging, outpatient infusion, and more.

MMCSC is committed to helping patients live their best lives by getting them back to the activities that are most important to them.
