The first step to skin cancer treatment is usually removal of the cancer. Surgery can range from an excision performed in an office, to surgery in a hospital setting. Depending on the size and stage of the disease, treatment after surgery can vary. In cases of less aggressive cancers, sometimes use of prescription creams after minor surgery can suffice. In other cases, the use of medications, radiation, and chemotherapy can be necessary after surgery. Malignant melanoma treatment is tailored to meet the needs of the patient. For cases when the disease does not respond to conventional therapies, we work alongside Rutgers Cancer Institute to offer our patients the latest in clinical trials.

For some patients, skin cancer treatment is only the first step, and reconstructive surgery is then required. RWJBarnabas Health offers a full range of surgical services, including plastic surgeons and reconstruction specialists.
