Application Process

Adult Volunteer Application

We accept applications and supporting documents throughout the year. Applications can be submitted in-person or via standard postal mail. Once you have submitted your application, we’ll contact you if we feel you may be a good fit in an open position. Your next steps will include:

  • Submitting recommendation letter(s) from your references
  • Completing an on-site interview with the Director of Volunteer Services
  • Attending a Volunteer Orientation

Applicants over the age of 18 will need to have two TB tests completed for their clearance. These will be administered at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway in the Employee Health Office. We will also perform a background check. An individual cannot begin to volunteer without having these two steps completed.

Once your clearances have been successfully completed (this can take up to four weeks if accepted), we’ll create your schedule so you can begin volunteering. Prior to the first volunteering shift, pick up your volunteer uniform from the Volunteer Services Office and your ID badge from the Security Office.

No matter what service area you are in, expect a degree of office work. This includes filing, organizing patient records, using the computer, answering phones or running requested errands.

Junior Volunteer Youth Program

Junior Volunteer Application

Youth volunteer opportunities are scheduled throughout the year allowing high school students to serve at the RWJ Rahway. Students must be 14 years or older and must be attending high school. Junior volunteer applicants must provide a record of their MMR vaccinations (Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccinations) from their pediatrician with their application. Students interested in summer volunteer hours are encouraged to apply early.

Once you have submitted your application, we’ll contact you if we feel you may be a good fit in an open position. Your next steps will include:

  • Receiving a TB shot from your pediatrician prior to orientation
  • Attending a mandatory volunteer orientation
