Neurological Surgery

Our Advanced Capabilities:

  • Gamma Knife, a state-of-the-art stereotactic radiosurgery system that provides an incisionless, highly precise approach to treating brain tumors and other brain disorders. Truly surgery with radiation, Gamma Knife involves no scalpels, scars or pain — jut pinpoint accurate radiation. The Gamma Knife is an option for patients with many conditions such as benign and malignant brain tumors, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), and many functional disorders such as trigeminal neuralgia and tremors and provides a treatment option for patient conditions once thought inoperable because of age, medical condition, or location of the abnormality.
  • TomoTherapy, an advanced and integrated cancer treatment system, benefits patients by locating tumors before treatment, delivering precise treatment to the tumors using rotating beamlets and minimizing damage to healthy tissue. TomoTherapy is the first system to integrate and automate radiation therapy from the location of the tumor to the delivery of the beams themselves. As a result, this breakthrough system is giving new options to patients with cancers near vital areas of the body.
  • StealthStation, a neuronavigational system that offers image-guided capabilities to perform precise surgical procedures involving the brain. This intraoperative computer system allows neurosurgeons to see where they are in the brain in relation to an MRI or CT scan, enabling them to perform smaller, more accurate craniotomies with a much greater margin of safety.
  • O-Arm, an intraoperative CT scanner that allows neurosurgeons to navigate screws and rods into the spine. Using the O-Arm and the Stealth Station together results in a sort of Global Positioning System for the spine. The surgeon can view a monitor to ensure that placement of screws into the spine is essentially perfect every time. The greater accuracy afforded by the O-Arms’ imaging capability in the operating room, allows the procedure to be completed with less risk to the patient.
  • Neuroendoscopy for minimally invasive treatment of pituitary tumors and hydrocephalus.
  • Operating microscopes allow neurosurgeons to perform delicate microsurgery in a minimally invasive manner by magnifying and perfectly illuminating the operative field, as well as ultrasonic aspirators and other sophisticated instruments.
