- RWJUH is the only academic medical center and provider of tertiary and
quaternary health care services in central New Jersey. The emergency department
at RWJUH sees > 100,000 patients annually and includes both adult and
pediatric emergency departments. RWJUH is the only Level 1 Trauma Center
for central New Jersey with additional designation as a Level 2 Trauma
Center for pediatric patients.
- The department of pharmacy provides 24/7 hour clinical coverage of the
emergency department.
- The emergency medicine pharmacy team is well established and provides comprehensive
coverage of both adult and pediatric emergency departments.

Clinical pharmacy services provided include:
- Bedside response to adult and pediatric medical and surgical emergencies
including but not limited to: cardiac arrest, myocardial infarction, rapid
sequence intubation, stroke, trauma, and sepsis.
- Prospective order verification and emergency department operational support
- Drug information and pharmacokinetic consults
- Review of culture results for patients discharged from adult and pediatric
emergency departments for pharmacotherapeutic issues (culture follow-up program)
- In addition to patient care, the emergency medicine pharmacy team works
closely with the department of emergency medicine and medical residency
program in research, teaching, and clinical practice advancement.
