Administrative Fellowship Program
The Clara Maass Medical Center Administrative Fellowship provides one Administrative Fellow exposure to a leadership development program designed to prepare emerging healthcare leaders through executive mentorship, strategic initiatives, and direct involvement in hospital operations.
Working alongside executive and senior leaders, the Administrative Fellow contributes to organizational priorities while gaining exposure to a broad range of clinical and operational areas.
Clara Maas Medical Center, a member of the RWJBarnabas Health System, is a 472-bed acute care hospital located in Belleville, New Jersey.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be enrolled in the final year of an accredited graduate program, pursuing a MHA, MPH, MPA, or MBA with an emphasis in health care, or degree equivalent.
Applicants must be US citizens or be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. (we are unable to sponsor H-1B visas).
Fellowship Structure
The Fellowship is a structured one-year program consisting of clinical and operational projects. The program begins on Tuesday, June 1, 2027. Throughout the fellowship, the Fellow gains experience across multiple aspects of hospital administration.
Working closely with the Chief Operating Officer and Executive Leadership Team, the Fellow leads and supports projects that align with the organization’s strategic priorities while collaborating with leaders across operations, finance, clinical and ancillary services, quality and patient safety, regulatory, and other key hospital departments. These initiatives provide insight into organizational priorities, executive decision-making, and healthcare operations while fostering core competencies.
Hospital directors and executive leaders serve as mentors for the Fellows, providing professional development and the opportunities to observe and participate in high-level strategic meetings.
Fellows Leave the Program With
- A comprehensive overview of the day-to-day operations of an urban hospital;
- Familiarity with the role and function of health care administrators in the management of a health care facility;
- Enhanced leadership, communication, analytical, and project management skills;
- And, exposure to many diverse projects and skill sets.

Application Must Contain
- Personal Statement which addresses what you hope to gain from and an Administrative Fellowship and how you will contribute to Clara Maass Medical Center. (750 words max)
- Graduate school transcript, confirming a minimum GPA of 3.5 out of a 4.0 scale.
- Current resume and cover letter
- Two letters of recommendation: one professional and one academic
- Applications should include one combined PDF file containing cover letter, personal statement, resume, transcript, and recommendation letters

Expected Timeline
The application for the 2027 – 2028 Administrative Fellowship is due on Friday, September 25, 2026 at 5pm. Final selection will occur by the end of October 2026.
