Dr. Alex Juusela is a highly experienced, board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist with specialized fellowship training in maternal-fetal medicine (MFM), also known as perinatology. As a maternal-fetal medicine specialist, Dr. Juusela is dedicated to providing comprehensive, evidence-based care for women with high-risk pregnancies, while also offering screening services for low-risk pregnancies. His expertise focuses on delivering patient-centered care, enhancing maternal health outcomes, and addressing complex pregnancy conditions through advanced treatments and research.
Dr. Juusela is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG), a recognition of his contributions to the field. He has a strong commitment to improving maternal and infant outcomes, particularly in addressing disparities related to racial and ethnic biases, maternal mental health, and postpartum hemorrhage.y
He has received national recognition via the ACOG National Faculty Award for Excellence in Resident Education, the American Academy of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL) Award for Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology, as well as 2 Detroit Medical Center research awards.
He is a published author whose works include high-risk pregnancy, robotic surgery, ovarian cancer, complications of pregnancy, and biomarkers of disease during pregnancy. His research interests include high-risk pregnancy, diseases complicating pregnancy, biomarkers of preeclampsia and placental disease, the prediction and prevention of preterm birth, diabetes in pregnancy, and fetal neuroprotection.
