Weight Loss and Bariatric Surgery
Your Weight Loss Journey Begins at The Center for Bariatrics at Community Medical Center
At The Center for Bariatrics in Toms River, New Jersey, we realize that weight loss is a journey, not a destination. We understand that the struggle with obesity is often complex. Obesity can be influenced by family history, physiological, environmental, socioeconomic and psychological factors. When other methods of losing weight have not been successful, surgical treatment may be an option. Effective, long-term weight loss requires lifelong changes and commitment.
Your weight loss transformation can begin today with a combination of bariatric surgery, nutritional counseling, exercise and monthly support groups with people who are working hard towards a healthier lifestyle, just like you.
Our Approach
The Center for Bariatrics is designed to help you reach your individual goals. With a comprehensive and collaborative approach to weight loss, our multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, dietitians and psychologists work with you throughout the entire process. Our team will provide you with a complete evaluation before surgery and education and support throughout.
The Bariatric Surgery Center at Community Medical Center offers a comprehensive medical and surgical program dedicated to making a lifestyle change.
How Our Program Is Different
We take a different approach to weight loss. Instead of focusing on short-term goals like reducing the size of your waist; we emphasize long-term benefits like reducing your risk for type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea and high blood pressure. The Center for Bariatrics offers a comprehensive approach to weight loss and bariatric surgery. We develop an individualized treatment plan and follow-up care for all of our bariatric patients, so you not only receive surgery, but also a lifestyle management program that helps you achieve weight loss, minimizes potential complications with surgery, assists with behavioral adjustments and promotes overall good health.
When you choose The Center for Bariatrics, be assured that the professionals who essentially become your weight loss family are at the top of their field and extremely sensitive to your physical and psychological conditions. And they will be with you every step of your journey.
Nonsurgical Weight Loss
Nonsurgical weight loss should be the beginning of your weight loss journey. Learning about nutrition from a registered dietician and beginning an exercise regimen can be effective for some people. Request an appointment with an RWJBarnabas Health doctor today about your weight loss concerns. We can connect you with experts who can help you along your weight loss journey. Even if you decide to pursue additional weight loss options, managing your diet and building muscle through exercise will still be important components of maintaining a healthy weight — and a healthy lifestyle.
Medical Weight Loss
There are a number of effective medications now available that help people manage their weight. Some, such as Wegovy (semaglutide) and Zepbound (tirzepetide), work by regulating hormones that control appetite. Other, such as Ozempic (which contains semaglutide), and Mounjaro (which contains tirzepetide), which are FDA-approved to treat Type 2 diabetes, work by regulating blood sugar levels, promoting a feeling of fullness and aiding in overall weight management.
People who have not had success losing weight through diet and exercise alone and have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 to 40 may benefit from these medical weight loss options, which are available by prescription only. People with a BMI of 27 or more who also suffer from obesity-related conditions such as hypertension, sleep apnea or diabetes may also qualify for these prescription medications aimed at weight loss management.
It is important to note that these medications should be managed under the care of qualified medical professionals, and should be considered part of a holistic approach to health and wellness. Maintaining weight loss long-term will still require a focus on maintaining a healthy diet, portion control, and an exercise regimen. We can help guide you on your weight loss journey.
