Volunteer Requirements

RWJBarnabas Health hospitals are creating a standardized, best-practice volunteer experience systemwide. Our newest volunteer platform is expected to transition and officially go live November 1, 2026. Kindly reach out back to us around that time so we can best guide you on moving forward with application and all necessary steps.

Volunteers must be at least 15 years of age and complete a minimum of 30 service hours per year. Our typical onboarding process is 6 to 8 weeks AFTER your interview.

Children’s Specialized Hospital Volunteer Onboarding Process

1. Complete application. Complete signed application and submit (2) references.
2. Interview. Upon position availability, we will contact you as interview dates are scheduled.
3. Complete the medical requirements. AFTER you are selected to be a part of CSH Volunteers, submit the CHS medical forms completed and signed by your Primary Care Physician VIA EMAIL to the Corporate Care nearest you.
4. Zoom orientation. AFTER we receive your medical clearance, you will be invited to attend a Zoom orientation.
5. Complete background check (18+). AFTER we receive your orientation documents.
6. ID badge. AFTER we receive the background check, your ID Badge will be ordered, and you will be ready to be placed and scheduled.

You must complete all these requirements before you can start volunteering, and as volunteer positions become available.
