Aug 20, 2020 U.S. News & World Report Names Clara Maass Medical Center, a High Performing Hospital for Heart Failure and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Belleville – Clara Maass Medical Center, a facility of RWJBarnabas Health has been recognized as a High Performing Hospital for 2020-21 by U.S. News & World Report.

The annual Procedures & Conditions ratings, now in their 6th year, are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for common conditions and elective procedures. These ratings extend the U.S. News mission of providing consumers with patient decision support beyond the Best Hospitals rankings, which are geared toward complex specialty care.

Clara Maass Medical Center earned a “High Performing” rating(s) for heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in recognition of care that was significantly better than the national average, as measured by factors such as patient outcomes. “High Performing” is the highest rating U.S. News awards for cardiac and pulmonology care.

“There’s a great level of pride and distinction that our entire team feels in knowing that U.S. News and World Report has recognized our team for exceeding the expectations of our patients” said Mary Ellen Clyne, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of Clara Maass Medical Center. “We have embraced our journey to become a High Reliability Organization one-hundred percent, which is reflected in our clinical outcomes and the latest rankings” Clyne said.

“Excellent clinical outcomes for every patient, every time is always our goal, and our high performance ranking from U.S. News and World Report is the result of the dedication and commitment of our entire team to clinical excellence” said Naveen Ballem, MD, Chief Medical Officer and Director of Bariatric Surgery at Clara Maass Medical Center.

For the 2020-21 ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 10 procedures and conditions. Fewer than a third of all hospitals received any high-performing rating, and only 37 earned this rating in all 10 Procedures & Conditions. The state and metro area rankings recognize hospitals that received high performing ratings across multiple areas of care.

“For more than 30 years, U.S. News & World Report has been helping patients, along with the help of their physicians, identify the Best Hospitals in an array of specialties, procedures and conditions,” said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News. “The hospitals that rise to the top of our rankings and ratings have deep medical expertise, and each has built a track record of delivering good outcomes for patients.”

The U.S. News Procedures & Conditions methodology is based entirely on objective measures of quality such as risk-adjusted outcome rates, volume, quality of nursing and other care-related indicators.

The Procedures & Conditions ratings were produced by U.S. News analysts.
