Brenda Robotic Fistula Patient Story

"My whole life has changed … it's wonderful!"

For nearly 10 years, Brenda was unable to control the urge to urinate and leaked constantly. She underwent two "mesh" procedures in which mesh slings were inserted to support the urethra, but still leaked. "I was absolutely miserable and was running out of hope," says the teacher's aide and mother of a son. Her gynecologist thought that Brenda may suffer from a condition called fistula and referred her to Dr. Hashemi who confirmed that the fistula was, indeed, the culprit. Presented with two surgery options: open "traditional" or robotic, Brenda opted for robotic surgery performed through just a few tiny abominable incisions rather than a much larger, more visible incision. Brenda's surgery was a success! She went home the next day and was back to work in just two weeks. She no longer has leakage or the stress that comes along with it. "My whole life has changed … it's wonderful!"
