Darla Harmer is responsible for the operational clinical practice, education and research delivered through nursing clinical services at Monmouth Medical Center (MMC). As CNO, she leads outstanding, evidence-based patient and family centered care across the continuum, inter-professional care delivery models based on continuous quality improvement, and integration and coordination of nursing practices across all service lines.

Ms. Harmer brings more than 10 years’ experience in bedside nursing to her role as CNO. She joined MMC in 2006 as Clinical Director, Inpatient Oncology Unit & Outpatient Infusion Center and was promoted to the role of Administrative Director, Medical-Surgical Division in 2011. Since 2018 she served as Assistant Vice President of Nursing at MMC where she had oversight for nearly 400 full-time employees throughout the hospital and provided nursing executive leadership to the Medical-Surgical Division, Critical Care Division and the Emergency Department.

Ms. Harmer earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and a Master of Science degree in Nursing – Health System Administration from Seton Hall University. Over the course of the pandemic she was recognized for rapidly mobilizing staff and coordinating the transition of roles and units. She also assisted with the implementation of a new tiered nursing model, intubation team, and enhanced infection control practices to maintain outstanding care throughout the pandemic. In addition, she collaborated on the successful Graduate RN Residency Program, creating a nurse leader role that helps maintain unit focus on quality standards. Her work to implement patient engagement best practices has directly contributed to achieving and sustaining MMC’s nationally ranked patient satisfaction scores.
