Family Medicine Residency Program
Class of 2023
Sunu M. Alexander, MD is from Long Island, New York. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree
from Gannon University where she majored in Biology with a Minor in Psychology.
Dr. Alexander completed her medical education at Ross University School
of Medicine. She is particularly interested in traditional primary care,
pediatrics, global health and preventive medicine.
Nisha Bengali, MD grew up in New Jersey. She is a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln
with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. Dr. Bengali received her
medical degree from St. Georges University School of Medicine. Her special
interests include women’s health, behavioral health, geriatrics
and palliative care.
Yuvneet Brar originally from Simi Valley, California, received her Bachelor of Science
in Biology from the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Brar is
a graduate of St. Georges University School of Medicine. She is particularly
interested in primary care, adolescent medicine and women’s health.
Benjamin Hunter, MD an Arizona native, received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with
a Biomedical Emphasis from the University of Arizona. Dr. Hunter completed
his medical education at St. Georges University School of Medicine. He
is interested in integrative medicine, palliative care and geriatric medicine.
Andrew Salinas, MD is a native of New Jersey. He completed a Bachelor of Science degree in
Biology from Loyola University of Maryland. Dr. Salinas is a graduate
of Ross University School of Medicine. His interests include outpatient
medicine and sports medicine.
Anjuli Singh, MD is from New York. She completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in English,
General Literature and Rhetoric from Binghamton University. Dr. Singh
also completed a Master’s in Business Administration from Binghamton
University. Dr. Singh received her medical degree from Saba University
School of Medicine. Her areas of special interest include sports medicine
and emergency medicine.
Rhea Thompson-Sitney, MD joins the residency from New York. She is a graduate of City University
of New York, Hunter College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology.
Dr. Thompson-Sitney completed her medical degree at St. Georges University
School of Medicine. Her special interests are in women’s health,
obstetrics and rural health.
Varinder Tut, MD a Canadian native, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological
Sciences from the University of Calgary. Dr. Tut received her medical
degree from the Medical University of Silesia School of Medicine in Katowice,
Poland. She is particularly interested in women’s health, primary
care and preventive medicine.
Class of 2024
Dubem Anumba, MD is from New York. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from SUNY Binghamton
where he majored in Cell and Molecular Biology. Dr. Anumba completed his
medical education at Ross University School of Medicine. He is particularly
interested in academic medicine, hospital medicine and urgent care.
Aysha Azam, DO grew up in a suburb of Philadelphia. She is a graduate of West Chester
University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry-Biology. Dr.
Azam received her medical degree from the Pennsylvania College of Osteopathic
Medicine. Her special interests include women’s health, obstetrics,
and aesthetics.
Melanie Bernardes, MD grew up in New Jersey, and received a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences
and a Master’s Degree in Neuroscience from the University of Hartford.
Dr. Bernardes is a graduate of Ross University School of Medicine, and
is particularly interested in women’s health and hospitalist medicine.
Arpan Garg, MD also grew up in New Jersey. Dr. Garg received his Bachelor of Science degree
in Biology and Neuroscience from Rutgers University, and completed his
medical education at American University of the Caribbean. He is interested
in sports medicine, emergency medicine, preventive medicine and community health.
Sanna Mohammad, MD is from Miramar, Florida. She completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology
from Florida International University. Dr. Mohammad is a graduate of St.
Georges University School of Medicine. Her special interests include women’s
health and rural medicine.
Tajwar Taher, MD joins the residency from Pendleton, Oregon. Dr. Tajwar is a graduate of
the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English
Literature. He completed his medical degree Oregon Health & Sciences
University School of Medicine. Dr. Taher’s special interests include
nutrition and mental health.
Tyra White, MD a native of New York, received a Bachelor of Arts and a Master’s
Degree in Biological Sciences from SUNY Binghamton. Dr. White received
her medical degree from the St. Georges School of Medicine. She is particularly
interested in preventive medicine, primary care, health care disparities
and global health.
Class of 2025
Samir Elias, MD, MPH grew up in New Jersey, and graduated from Montclair State University with
a B.S. in Public Health and Community Health Education. Dr. Elias completed
his medical education at St. Georges School of Medicine where he also
completed a Master’s Degree in Public Health. He is particularly
interested in Primary Care Prevention, Adolescent Medicine and Women’s Health.
Stephen Joseph, DO who is from Yonkers, New York, graduated from Stony Brook University with
a BS in Interdisciplinary Biology. Dr. Joseph received his D.O. from Campbell
University Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine. His medical
interests include Hospital medicine, Primary Care and Preventive Medicine.
Vincent Lau, DO, MBS is a native of New Jersey. Dr. Lau is a graduate of Rutgers University
with a BS in Biology with a minor in Nutrition. He also completed a Master
of Biological Sciences from the Rutgers School of Biomedical and Health
Sciences. Dr. Lau received his D.O. from Rowan University School of Osteopathic
Medicine. His interests within medicine include Preventive Medicine, Integrative
Medicine and Sports Medicine.
Apurva Mallampati, MD, MPH also grew up in New Jersey. Dr. Mallampati graduated from Rutgers University
with a BS in Anthropology and Public Health, and went on to complete a
MPH at the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
She completed her medical degree at St. Georges School of Medicine As
evident in her educational experiences, Dr. Mallampati has a particular
interest in Community Medicine.
Kartik Pottepalem, DO joins the residency as a native of New Jersey. He graduated from Rutgers
University with a BA in Cell Biology and Neuroscience. Dr. Pottepalem
went on to complete a D.O. medical degree from Rowan University School
of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Pottepalem is interested in Sports Medicine.
Hassan Shahbaz, MD grew up in Ontario, Canada. He received a Bachelor of Medical Sciences
from Western University. Dr. Shahbaz went on to complete his medical degree
at the American University of the Caribbean. His interests include Primary
Care and Preventive Medicine.
Liyan Yao, MD comes from Cold Spring Harbor, New York. She completed a dual BS degree
in Neuroscience & Behavior and Biology from Wesleyan University where
she was also captain of the varsity swim team. Dr. Yao completed her medical
degree at St. Georges School of Medicine. Her special interests include
Women’s Health, Primary Care and Urgent Care.
