John Bucek, MD, FAAFPundefined
Executive Director Undergraduate and Graduate Education

After residency, Dr. Bucek completed a fellowship at Stony Brook Hospital in Obstetrics and Faculty Development. He joined the Somerset family as faculty in 1997. He served as Program Director from 2006-2016 and is now the Director of Graduate Medical Education. Dr. Bucek has a special interest in environmental toxicity for pregnancy and newborns. He is active on L&D and has delivered more than 700 babies with 100 different residents. In his spare time he enjoys softball and online games.

Lalitha Hansch, MD, FAAFP, DABMAundefined
Program Director

A member of the Somerset Family Medicine Residency family for more than 15 years, Dr. Hansch served as a chief resident in 2001-2002. After being in private practice, she returned to Somerset as faculty in 2005 and became program director in 2017 after serving as associate director from 2014-2017. She received additional training in medical acupuncture at the Helms Medical Institute at UCLA School of Medicine, and is board-certified in both Family Medicine and Medical Acupuncture. Dr. Hansch has special interests in medical acupuncture, women's health, pediatrics, practice management and nutrition. In her spare time she enjoys reading, hiking, and traveling.

Joanne Lundholm, MDundefined
Associate Director

Dr. Lundholm graduated from Somerset Family Medicine Residency in 2006 after serving as chief resident. She was awarded the prestigious Carl Meier, MD Award for exemplifying the qualities of a family physician. After graduation, Dr. Lundholm spent two years in a busy urban practice in Wilmington, Delaware, providing comprehensive medical care to the under-served and gained valuable clinical experience. She returned to the Somerset family as faculty in 2008, became associate director in 2017 and continues to be PGY-2 Year Manager, guiding rotations and activities of our second year class. She is active on L&D with maternity and obstetrics. Her special interests include pediatrics, women's health, and obstetrics. Dr. Lundholm has volunteered on several medical missions to Belize, Honduras, and China.

Dr. Butt joined the RWJ Somerset Family Medicine Residency in January of 2018. Dr. Butt serves as PGY-3 Year Manager, guiding the rotations and activities of the 3rd year class as well as sharing her experience from more than ten years as a practicing Family Physician.

Margaret Guyton, MD

Dr. Guyton joined the Somerset family in 1998 after graduating from Overlook Family Medicine Residency program. Dr. Guyton was a former midwife which lends her a unique perspective in her maternity teaching and precepting. She manages our practice management curriculum to prepare our residents for successful practice following graduation. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her grandson and cultivating her house plants.

Laura Micek-Galinat, MD, MPH

Dr. Galinat's commitment to preparing residents for careers in family medicine is energized by her passion for the specialty and her considerable educational expertise. She joined our Somerset Family in 2001 and became board certified in Integrative Medicine in 2015. She created our innovative HEALERS program, an integrated curriculum designed to teach Somerset graduates to provide compassionate patient-centered health care. As of July 2014, she directs an optional Integrative Medicine track of study collaborating with the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine. She is also runs monthly EKG review, and serves as PGY-1 Manager where she guides the rotations and activities of the PGY-1 class. She has special interests in resident wellness, integrative medicine, and culinary medicine. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, traveling, outdoor activities hiking, biking, snow shoeing.

Frances Wu, MD

Dr. Wu has been a member of our faculty since 1990. She is very active in medical student education and administers our clerkship and acting internship programs and has been recognized for her teaching excellence. She is also a volunteer preceptor at Promise Clinic in New Brunswick, a student-run clinic. With our residents, she runs procedural workshops that provide hands-on training in colposcopy, minor skin procedures, and IUD insertion and removal. Dr. Wu has special interests in and runs lectures series on patient safety and medical ethics.

Doreen Sperber-Weiss, PhD., APN
Behavioral Specialist

Dr. Sperber-Weiss joined the Somerset Family Practice Residency 1/1/2018 after Retiring from Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital where she was Chief Nurse. She was Clinical Training Director of the Psychology Internship Program for 12 years in the Newark Public Schools. She has also supervised/mentored several post doctorial psychologists to fulfill New Jersey licensing requirements. She has had a longstanding interest in training mental health professionals and family practice doctors, as she considers FPDs the gate keepers of good medical care and the first line interveners to address mental illness. In her free time she enjoys her grandchildren, the beach, cooking, baking, crafts, playing the violin and exploring the world. Her research interests include decreasing violence, trauma recovery and improving outcomes for individuals who are transgender.

Dr. Sperber-Weiss has worked in a variety of settings, including schools, clinics, group homes, prison and has had a general private practice for over 40 years. She has worked with individuals from age 5 to over 100 years old. Her emphasis in treatment is building resilience, skills and confidence to manage barriers that prevent individuals from achieving their life goals. In most cases a Cognitive-Behavioral Approach is used in Treatment. Other treatment modalities include medications when appropriate, biofeedback, hypnosis and life style and nutritional counseling.

Family Practice Nurse Practitiiner/Nurse Manager

Dr. Richardson joined Somerset Family Practice as our Family Nurse Practitioner in 2007 and became our Nurse Manager in 2009. In 2013, she earned a Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree. As a Nurse Practitioner, Melissa provides care for the family across the health care continuum. She also supervises the clinical activities and development of our nursing staff. Melissa works with our Home Visit program. She travels with residents to assess and treat their homebound patients. Melissa is active in several Hospital and community committees. Her professional interests include women's health, pediatrics, global health, medical missions, and academia. Melissa has recently begun teaching in the Nursing programs at Rutgers and Monmouth University. She precepts Nurse Practitioner students from various universities. Melissa has presented on Self-care of the Professional Nurse on the State level and will be presenting on the same topic nationally.

Luigi Brunetti, PharmD, MPH

Dr. Brunetti joined Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset in 2007 to establish a practice site for Doctor of Pharmacy students. An accomplished clinician and educator, he also dedicates his time and expertise to our residents' education and clinical practice through participating on Family Medicine Inpatient Service patient care rounds, noon conferences, and provision of drug information. He conducts clinical research studies at RWJUH Somerset and is involved in several hospital committees. Dr. Brunetti has published over 40 peer-reviewed manuscripts, abstracts, and textbook chapters. He is also involved in several grant funded research projects, which Family Practice residents have the opportunity to participate.

Kathryn Schmidt, MSW, C-TAGME
Residency Administrator

Ms. Schmidt coordinates the day-to-day management of operations for our residency, faculty and residents. She arrived at Somerset in 1996, and brought with her the experience and skills she gained during ten years as a clinical social worker in residential treatment, early childhood education, and parenting resource settings. In 2009 she became one of the first Family Medicine residency administrators to obtain certification from the National Board of Certification for Training Administrators in Graduate Medical Education. Her special interests include resident recruitment, residency management software, and organizational efficiency.
