Brunch and Learn for Religious Leaders - Mercer Council: Addressing the Disease of Addiction through Community Engagement

RWJ Hamilton’s Department of Pastoral Care & Training begins the 2019 series of educational programs for religious leaders in our community with a program focusing on the faith community’s opportunity to address the potentially fatal disease of addiction.

Our presentation will be led by Barbara T. Sprechman, CPS, the Assistant Executive Director of Mercer Council on Alcoholism and Drug Addiction. Barbara has been in the prevention field for the past twenty five years as a prevention educator, grant writer, coalition coordinator and professional development trainer.

Mercer Council is committed to its mission of creating pathways to reduce substance-related challenges through education, support, advocacy, and partnerships throughout our community. Mercer Council implements research-based programs to provide children and families with tools that empower them to make healthy, safe and responsible choices.

The following goals will be addressed in this program:

  • Gaining insight into the history and scope of Mercer Council efforts in our community.
  • Understanding key concepts in the disease of addiction.
  • Identifying basic prevention and strategies for religious leaders addressing substance abuse.

A certificate of attendance for 2 contact hours will be given to all who attend.
