Breast Cancer Everything you Wanted to Know but Were Afraid to Ask: A Free Bi-Lingual Event in Newark

On September 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Essex County College, Newark, NJ, Susan G. Komen North Jersey presents “Breast Cancer Everything you Wanted to Know but Were Afraid to Ask.” This free bi-lingual event is in partnership with St. Michael’s Medical Center, RWJ Barnabas Health. Rutgers University New Jersey Medical School, the Sister’s Network of Essex County and NJ CEED and is funded by a generous grant from Walgreens.

Three sessions will take place and all will be offered in English and Spanish by trained medical professionals. The sessions will feature information on understanding what you can do to lower your risk of breast cancer, debunking myths, and knowing what is normal for you; early detection, including screening guidelines and options; and a discussion panel on treatment options.

The sessions will be led by local doctors Alice J. Cohen, MD, F.A.C.P., Medical Director of the Frederick B. Cohen Cancer and Blood Disorders Center at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey and section chief of Breast Cancer Services; Ross Cooperman, MD, F.A.C.S., Board Certified Plastic Surgeon; Basil Hubbi, MD Assistant Professor of Radiology Section Chief of Breast Imaging Rutgers New Jersey Medical School; Ogori N. Kalu, MD, Breast Surgical Oncologist, St. Michael's Medical Center; Janette H. Mcdermott MD, F.A.C.S., Surgical specialist in breast cancer care; and Dolly Razdan, MD, Radiation Oncologist, Barnabas Health.

In addition to the sessions, free breakfast and free lunch will be provided and all attendees will receive a goody bag. Univision will be in attendance as well and participants at the event will have the chance to meet celebrities from Univision’s programming.
