Virtual AT ShopTalk March 2021!

"The Runner's Guide to Resiliency"

Dr. Ryan Summers, PT, DPT, CSCS - Physical Therapist and VP of Coaching Operations with Active Life

Friday, 3/26 11am-12:30pm EST; Approved for 1 BOC CE for ATs.

Running injuries are one of the more commonly occurring sports injuries that athletic trainers have to evaluate, and due to the high volume of training it's important to avoid mismanagement and chronic recurrence. Why do runners get injured so much? Is it both in endurance athletes and high-performance sprinters? Is there a difference in the management of these two types of athletes? Dr. Summers hopes to shed some light on these questions in his presentation. Following the presentation will be open floor Q&A, followed by a chance for attending ATs to discuss current issues in Athletic Training.

Objectives.  After this session, attendees will be able to:

-Simplify and objectify running mechanics and the requirements of the athletic body

-Discuss common injuries and the blueprint to management

-Explain approaches to injury risk reduction and the pivotal role that coaches / athletic trainers / medical professionals can play
