We will be discussing an overview of common mental health concerns among college student-athletes, and how these issues can present in the context of athletic training. The MCAT discussion will focus on how AT’s can respond to mental health concerns when they arise, have conversations with student-athletes who report or demonstrate these concerns, and take further action to help. Presenters will also describe their integrated and multidisciplinary treatment model for mental health issues at Princeton, called TIGERSPAW. Presenters will discuss opportunities and challenges the model has created, including information-sharing and privacy, coordination of care, holistic treatment planning and mind-body issues.

3 core objectives

  • Participants will better recognize signs of mental health distress.
