    Bio

I am a native of NJ. Born and raised in Bergen and Hudson Counties. I played many sports growing up and was a college level recruit for both football and wrestling. I always knew I wanted to be a physician and so I focused on my studies. My sports background has taught me the importance of teamwork and resilience in the face of adversity. Ultimately, I focused on my studies and went to Stevens Institute of Technology for my undergraduate degree. Thereafter I attended UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School in Newark. I fell in love with urology due to the endoscopic and minimally invasive aspect of urology and was keen on robotics from the early 2000s. My passion for robotic surgery continued to grow through residency and ultimately I performed a minimally invasive urologic surgery fellowship at the Smith Institute for Urology under the tutelage of Arthur Smith and Louis Kavoussi (two world-renown pioneers in minimally invasive urology). There I performed countless urologic oncologic and reconstructive cases via robotic, laparoscopic (and a few open) approaches. My love for robotics continues and I am happy to offer patients both multi-port and single-port robotic approaches for their diseases. My passion for robotics has led me to build a very high volume robotics practice and become the director of robotic surgical services at RWJUH.

    Philosophy of Care:

My name is Sammy Elsamra and I am passionate about providing creative solutions to complex urologic problems. Sometimes this means surgery, sometimes it means medication or observation. I am always interested in providing the maximal benefit to patients with the least amount of pain, time out of work/life/family, surgical scar. My passion has led to me seek out and become an expert in robotic urologic surgery. Using both multi-port and single-port robotic platforms I am facile with performing complex oncologic and reconstructive cases with minimal incision, pain, and convalescence. While I love being in the operating room and working with my hands, I also love chatting and engaging with my patients and getting to know them and focusing on improving their quality of life. I live and work in central NJ and that gives me a great sense of satisfaction that I am helping members in my community.
