Sammy E. Elsamra, MD

I am a native of New Jersey, born and raised in Bergen and Hudson Counties. Growing up, I was active in sports and recruited at the college level for both football and wrestling. My athletic background taught me teamwork and resilience, qualities I carry into my career as a physician. I fell in love with urology early on for its endoscopic and minimally invasive approaches and became passionate about robotics in the early 2000s. That passion led me to pursue fellowship training in minimally invasive urologic surgery, where I performed countless oncologic and reconstructive procedures. Today, I am proud to serve as Director of Robotic Surgical Services at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where I have built a high-volume robotics practice.

Philosophy of Care:

I am passionate about providing creative solutions to complex urologic problems. Sometimes this means surgery, other times medication or observation. My focus is always on maximizing patient benefit while minimizing pain, time away from family and work, and surgical scarring. I specialize in robotic urologic surgery using both multi-port and single-port platforms, offering patients minimally invasive treatment for complex oncologic and reconstructive cases. While I love being in the operating room, I also value building connections with my patients, engaging with them, and working together to improve their quality of life. Living and working in central New Jersey gives me great satisfaction in knowing I am serving my own community.

Clinical Interests:

Robotic urologic surgery for oncology and reconstruction (prostate cancer, kidney cancer, adrenal tumors, simple prostatectomy, ureteral strictures, UPJ obstruction, ureteral reimplantation, ileal loop urinary diversion, cystectomy); Aquablation therapy for benign prostatic hyperplasia.
