  • Fariborz (Bobby) Rezai, MD, FCCP, FCCM, is the System Director of Critical Care Medicine, RWJBarnabas Health, part of the Emergency and Hospitalist Medicine (EHM) Service Line. He is responsible for standardizing the collaborative, intensivist-driven Intensive Care Unit (ICU) model across the enterprise.

    Since joining RWJBarnabas Health, Dr. Rezai has continually assumed additional clinical and leadership responsibility both at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center (CBMC) and across the System. Having completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine, he is board certified in Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine and Neurocritical Care. During his tenure, Dr. Rezai has been integrally involved in creating an intensivist-driven ICU model across the enterprise focused on quality and safety. Under his leadership, numerous processes and protocols have been implemented resulting in superior outcomes for patients. Recently, Dr. Rezai operationalized intensivist-driven IMCUs (intermediate care units) at some RWJBarnabas Health facilities, where patients admitted to the intermediate care are cared for by the critical care team.

    Dr. Rezai is Past President of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, New Jersey Chapter, where he is active both on a local and national level. He is a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine (FCCM) and a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP). As an academic leader and tenured Clinical Professor at Rutgers, New Jersey Medical School, Dr. Rezai has more than 200 publications, abstracts presentations and lecturers.
