I have always had a holistic approach towards patient care. Operating in a vacuum or focusing solely on one portion of the patient will almost ensure that you are going to miss something. Being there for patients and their families in their most dire situations gives me a unique opportunity to impact their lives in a meaningful way. It is one of the most rewarding aspects of being a physician in the Intensive Care Unit.
