Feb 25, 2026 March 2026: Choosing Happiness

We make dozens of choices every day, from what to eat and what to wear, to what to do and who to spend time with. Many of our choices are made without thinking, they are just routine.

Happiness, however, can feel like something that just happens to us. We get good news, we’re happy. Someone shows us kindness, we’re happy.

We all face those events that can derail happiness; health challenges, people and events that cause frustration, even traffic! But happiness does not come from your circumstances or your situation. Happiness comes from a choice that you make within, especially when faced with stressful times.

There are several benefits to choosing happiness. Those who choose to be happy have been found to be generally healthier, are more productive and creative, and manage stress better than their less happy counterparts.

Try the 8 Happiness Habits below to get on the path toward internal happiness that can drive how you respond to situations and events that may otherwise compromise how happy you are.

If you are having difficulty finding and choosing happiness, your One Source EAP benefit can help. Just call (800) 300-0628 at anytime of the day or night, your call will be answered by trained specialists.

Both the call and the services are strictly confidential.

8 Happiness Habits

While happiness is a choice, it also requires daily practice that entails time, effort and dedication. Many of the habits are the same ones that lead to better mental health. Choose:

1. Gratitude to find the bright side

2. Positive thinking

3. To smile

4. Meaningful relationships

5. Kindness

6. Mindfulness

7. A purpose

8. To be satisfied
