Dec 3, 2023 December 2023: Make Up Your Mind!

Woman thinking

During the holidays, we are presented with many decisions – from what gifts to buy, to holiday menus, to what to wear and where to go to celebrate the season.

For some of us, most decisions are easy to make, based on habit or a quick review of the facts, especially when the
situation calls for a timely answer on a small matter. For others, it can be overwhelming to make even the smallest of decisions. We all have that friend who won’t choose what to order until you do, then asks for the same meal.

Decision-making is especially difficult when we are under stress. Being in a stressful situation or believing the result of the decision will be stressful, can lead to poor decisions. Chronic stress reduces blood flow and oxygen to the brain and sends the brain into a chaotic state. This makes it difficult for the brain to access the information it needs to make logical decisions.

Basic stress management techniques can go a long way to calming your brain to make up your mind. View our Calm Collection videos for techniques to help reduce stress and think more clearly in about 3 minutes.

If you find yourself unable to make daily decisions, especially due to stress, contact One Source EAP at 800-300-0628. All calls are answered 24/7/365 and are strictly confidential.
