Sep 21, 2022 Newark and Newark Beth Israel Medical Center to Host Alma Beatty Health and Wellness Fair at Marquis “Bo” Porter Sports Complex, Saturday, September 24, at Noon

Event is one of city’s largest Health and Wellness Fairs, hosted in partnership with Back Together Again Initiative;

Free blood pressure and diabetes screenings will be available, along with farmer’s market, CPR demos, table tennis, carnival games, and NJPAC dance performances

Newark, NJ—September 21, 2022—Mayor Ras J. Baraka announced today that the City of Newark will partner with Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Back Together Again to host the annual Alma Beatty Health and Wellness Fair at the Marquis “Bo” Porter Sports Complex at 378 Lyons Avenue, on Saturday, September 24, from Noon – 4 p.m.

The health fair will include free blood pressure screenings, diabetes screenings, and health information tables, including education sessions with expert clinicians at an “Ask the Doctor” information table, and CPR demonstrations with take-home learning kits. There will also be opportunities to make appointments for mammograms, colorectal cancer screenings, lung cancer screenings and more. Newark Beth Israel is also bringing its Farmer’s Market to the park, offering a wide selection of fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables and discount vouchers for seniors.

“Newark Beth Israel Medical Center is excited to work with the City of Newark to bring one of our most anticipated health fairs into the community at Marquis ‘Bo’ Porter Sports Complex. The legacy of the late Ms. Alma Beatty lives on through this health fair and our many community outreach initiatives in the City of Newark,” said Darrell K. Terry, Sr., MHA, MPH, FACHE, FHELA, President and Chief Executive Officer, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey.

Attendees can also enjoy dance performances from the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), Major Heat Dancers, adult fitness challenges, and special programming for children will be available including Bricks4Kidz, table tennis instruction, photo booths, carnival games and more.

There will also be special giveaways, raffles, and a food truck corridor on Lyons Avenue, in front of the sports complex.

This year’s community partners include: AT&T, Clinton Hill Community Action, Community Foodbank of Hillside New Jersey, Greater Newark Healthcare Coalition, Imagine, Medicare Advisors, My Sister’s Lighthouse, Newark Department of Health – Lead Prevention Program, Newark Emergency Services for Families, Newark YMCA, New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Rutgers Brain Health, SEEDS, South Ward Environmental Alliance, South Ward Promise Neighborhood, South Ward Special Improvement District, Urban League of Essex County, Unified Vailsburg Service Organization, WellCare-HMO, and Weequahic Family Success Center.

Food Truck Corridor participants will include: Blackstone, Greg’s Hot Dogs, GrubBox, Halal Style Get & Go, and Kings & Queens
