The Ocean County Sheriff’s Department hosted a Police Academy Basic Class #110 graduation ceremony, where two Psychiatric Emergency Screening Services (PESS) staffers received awards, for teaching police recruits for many years. Joe Cuffari and James Romer have been teaching the mental health system, screening law, and situational awareness to both new recruits and seasoned officers. It has been a crucial relationship to keep both people in crisis and officers safe.
