Aug 25, 2021 Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus Earns National Accreditation from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons

Commission on Cancer Accredited ProgramLakewood, NJ—The Commission on Cancer (CoC), a quality program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), has granted three-year accreditation as a Community Cancer Program to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus (MMCSC), an RWJBarnabas Health (RWJBH) facility.

With this accreditation, ACoS CoC recognizes the cancer care program at MMCSC for its commitment to providing comprehensive high-quality and multidisciplinary patient-centered care. To earn this voluntary CoC accreditation, a cancer program must meet 32 CoC quality care standards, be evaluated every three years through a survey process, and maintain levels of excellence in the delivery of comprehensive patient-centered care.

Because it is a CoC-accredited cancer center, Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus takes a multidisciplinary approach to treating cancer as a complex group of diseases that requires consultation among surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, diagnostic radiologists, pathologists and other cancer specialists. Together with Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, the state’s only National Cancer Institute- designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus offers patients access to the latest treatments, including clinical trials.

“This accreditation by the CoC assures the community that they have access to the highest quality cancer care close to home,” said Julie Chaudhuri, Vice President of Oncology Services for the RWJBH Southern Region. “It also demonstrates our commitment to providing the comprehensive medical and support services our patients need, including cancer prevention programs and screenings, advanced diagnostic and treatment options, and access to the latest clinical research and survivorship programs.”

Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus provides a full range of treatment for all stages and sites of cancer. Comprehensive care includes valuable support services, such as oncology nurse navigators, nutritional counseling, rehabilitation and social services.
