Oct 1, 2020 Saint Barnabas Medical Center Partners with Local Restaurants for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This October, as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Saint Barnabas Medical Center (SBMC) and the Barnabas Health Ambulatory Care Center (BHACC) are partnering with local restaurants to raise awareness for breast health.

“The support and generosity of our local community helped the Saint Barnabas Medical Center staff tremendously while fighting on the front lines of COVID-19,” said Stephen P. Zieniewicz, FACHE, President and Chief Executive Officer at SBMC. “This partnership is a show of our appreciation for their support when we needed it most.”

During this stressful time, many people are worried about things in their lives that have been put on hold. For some women, this includes an annual mammogram. In support, partner restaurants will give out pink reusable take-out bags throughout the month of October to remind women to schedule their mammograms at The Breast Center at BHACC and to remind others to do the same.

Because the safety and health of patients, caregivers and team members remains the highest priority, safety protocols are place at The Breast Center at BHACC. These include screening for COVID-19 symptoms upon entry, following strict social distancing measures, enhancing already rigorous cleaning and disinfecting practices, enforcing strict hand hygiene and providing hand sanitizer in all employee and patient areas, and mandating a mask or face covering for all patients, visitors and staff.

Early detection is crucial for breast cancer and can improve a woman’s overall prognosis. Breast health is too important to wait. Visit www.rwjbh.org/mammo to schedule a mammogram, and spread the word on social media.
