Homemade Hummus RecipeHummus is a great snack for the family, in wraps and salads, or something to just hold you over until your next meal.

Ingredients

1 15-oz. can garbanzo beans (chickpeas)
1 clove fresh garlic, or 1 tsp. minced garlic
1/4 cup lemon juice, or the juice of 1/2 fresh lemon
2 Tbsp Tahini (sesame paste)
2 Tbsp olive oil

Directions

  1. Drain the garbanzo beans and retain the fluid in a separate bowl.
  2. Put garbanzo beans, garlic and Tahini in a food processor and begin to blend. You may also use a blender, or mash by hand with a vegetable masher.
  3. When the garbanzo beans start to become mashed, add lemon juice and olive oil.
  4. Continue to blend until smooth.
  5. If necessary, add retained fluid from garbanzo beans, or extra water, oil or lemon juice, if you prefer a thinner consistency.

Serving Information

1/4 cup

Serves as a dip or a vegetarian entree with your choice of: pita/pita chips, corn chips or pretzels; raw vegetables; and pickles or olives. Use your imagination!
