Darrell Terry, President and CEO of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey

Hello, I’m Darrell Terry, President and CEO of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey. I know we have all been struggling to make sense of this pandemic, trying to understand these new guidelines, coping with loss, and just doing the best we can to keep our families safe. At Newark Beth Israel, we have finally turned the corner and 90 percent of our hospital is now COVID free.

Our staff did an amazing job at managing this crisis, and I also want to thank all of you for staying home for us. You’ve taken every precaution and so have we. You should know that if you or a loved one are having a medical emergency, chest pain, or your child needs to see the pediatrician, our emergency room is open, and our primary care physicians are also ready to see you. Don’t delay your care.

Throughout this crisis, we never stopped delivering babies, providing prenatal services, seeing children at the Children’s Hospital, or delivering urgent care. We remain focused on your safety and the safety of our employees as part of our safety together journey towards high reliability.

We have installed hospital-grade Hepa filters, and we are using robotic ultraviolet technology to clean our facility. At every entrance, we’re screening for symptoms, taking temperatures, and requiring our patients and employees to wear masks in the hospital. Social distancing is observed throughout – from the elevators to the waiting rooms, visitor restrictions remain in place and we are scheduling more telemedicine visits than ever before. It’s a convenient way to get the care you deserve without leaving home.

This is what we do. This is who we are. Earlier this year, we earned our fourth consecutive Leapfrog “A” for safety, and Newsweek named us one of the World’s Best Hospitals for the second time in a row.

But you know which honor I’m most proud of? The fact that you trust us to care for you and your loved ones. Thank you, and on behalf of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey, welcome back.
