Our RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group dedicated rehabilitation specialists including physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists, offer key, transitional treatments to ensure that our patients and their loved ones can get back to their day-to-day activity as swiftly and safely as possible by building mobility, strength and coordination.
Each patient undergoes a comprehensive evaluation and a unique plan of care is established. The goal is to return the patient to their maximum functional level and regain lost independence or performance to reach their optimal quality of life.
Following the initial evaluation, our experts collaborate to design integrated, evidence-based care plans tailored specifically to each patient’s needs. Throughout treatment, therapists continue to work in conjunction with one another and monitor, evaluate and adjust each patient’s plan as needed to meet recovery goals and achieve optimal outcomes.
Physical Therapy Treatments available include:
- Balance training
- Ergonomics assessments, physical performance testing and correct body mechanics education
- Endurance training
- Fall prevention and gait training with the use of assistive devices
- Massage and other myofascial release
- Modalities such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, iontophoresis, phonopheresis, biofeedback
- Orthopedic and sports medicine injuries
- Pre- and post-surgical strengthening through therapeutic exercise and functional activities
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy is utilized to increase an individual’s ability to perform the skills necessary to lead an independent and productive life.
Patients of Occupational Therapy are generally faced with:
- Physical impairments or disabilities
- Developmental disabilities and delays
- Psychosocial disabilities
Occupational therapists work with patients to strengthen and mobilize the upper body, improve coordination and increase fine-motor dexterity, educate them in joint protection and energy conservation, and train in the performance of daily living skills.
Speech Therapy
Experienced, licensed speech-language pathologists provide diagnostic evaluations for all ages with regard to difficulties with:
- Speech/articulation
- Expressive or receptive language
- Voice
- Fluency
- Feeding/swallowing
Therapeutic intervention is then implemented based on the evaluation results. Our outpatient speech-language therapists are continuously developing and expanding support programs and resources offered to our patients.
