Harper and Makayla met while they were both patients at Children's Specialized Hospital’s (CSH) Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey. During their healthcare journey, the girls formed a beautiful friendship, bonding over their shared experiences with Cerebral Palsy.
Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a term that covers different neuromuscular disorders caused by damage to the brain around the time of birth or early life. Cerebral Palsy typically affects muscle coordination, motor development, movement, reflexes and balance.
Harper and Makayla’s Cerebral Palsy impacts both of their legs and right arms. Throughout their time at CSH they were able to support and inspire each other during their treatment.
The Center for Cerebral Palsy at Children’s Specialized Hospital offers comprehensive multidisciplinary care for patients with cerebral palsy and other neuromuscular conditions. The goals of the center are to ensure children with CP receive all the medical and therapy services they need to improve function and reach their full potential.
Harper and Makayla both completed comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation. CP’s inpatient rehabilitation is best suited for general rehabilitation for post-orthopedic surgery and post-neurosurgery. CSH also offers outpatient services such as special needs primary care, therapy services, and procedural services.
