Judy S Judy's Pink Crusader Patient Story

“Breast cancer was just a curveball in my life.”

Judy Sochon, a 30-year teacher, loves her job. She was always diligent in having her annual health screenings – never missing a mammogram since the age of 35. In September 2014, after a routine mammogram, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She did not have any symptoms nor any family history. Her stage 2 cancer required surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. Throughout her treatment she maintained a very positive attitude, not letting cancer stop her from living life. She encouraged other women to get their annual mammograms.

At first, Judy was not sure if she wanted to participate in a clinical trial. Realizing the opportunity she would have to help others through important research changed her mind. “Breast cancer was just a curveball in my life,” she says. “I have never felt so humbled by all of the support from family, friends, co-workers, and the community. Breast cancer opened my eyes to so many really kind people in the world that were just truly incredible. I am incredibly blessed.”
