General Surgery Residency Program

internal medicine

General Information

All applications will be accepted and processed through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). We will be offering 4 categorical positions via the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) match.

Eligibility criteria

An applicant must meet one of the following qualifications to be eligible for appointment:

  • Graduation from a medical school in the United States or Canada, accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME)
  • Graduation from a college of osteopathic medicine in the United States, accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA)
  • Graduation from a medical school outside of the United States or Canada with a currently valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) prior to appointment

We will utilize ERAS for selection of our applicants. No information or applications will be accepted by fax or email. Only information provided through ERAS will be utilized in selecting candidates for an interview.

Application Requirements:

  • Three original letters of recommendation.
  • All applicants must pass USMLE steps I & II: CK/CS. Priority will be given to applicants who have not had more than 1 attempt on all USMLE exams
  • International medical graduates must be ECFMG-certified to be considered for interviews.
  • Recent medical school graduate (within 5 years preferred).
  • US clinical experience is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Deadline for applications is December 31 of each year

For the 2022 ERAS® cycle, our program will strongly encourage all applicants to complete a supplemental ERAS application, offered through the AAMC’s ERAS program. Applicants also will be required to complete the MyERAS application.

The additional information will help our program staff learn more about applicants’ medical education journey, including more meaningful information about work, volunteer, and research experiences, and help us better identify applicants who fit our program environment and mission.

This supplemental ERAS application will be delivered on a survey platform outside the MyERAS application and must be completed between September 1 and September 30.

Please bookmark the supplemental ERAS application section of the AAMC website to find the latest information, FAQs, and resources.
