Pressure Points in Special Education- Intersection of Legal and Clinical Issues

Topic: Social Skills

Date/Time: Thursday, April 4, 2024, from 6:30pm to 8:00pm, ET

Session 4 of this special education series is presented by:

  • Dr. Rachel Kisver, Psy. D., Clinical Psychologist, Children’s Specialized Hospital
  • Jared Oberweis, Attorney at Hinkle, Prior & Fischer, Disability Rights Attorneys

About this session:

A disability can interfere with a child’s ability to learn, socialize and engage in necessary daily activities. These deficits may result in isolation, stigmatization, and loneliness while the child is in school. Multiple studies have confirmed that a lack of appropriate social skills is one of the primary factors that limits individuals with disabilities from being able to secure and maintain employment, pursue further education, and live independently as adults. This session will explore specialized, evidence-based techniques to improve social skills among students, including the responsibility of the school district.
