Tyrone Krause, MD

Dr. Krause has been in his current role as the Chief of Cardiothoracic and Chair of Surgery at Jersey City Medical Center (JCMC) since 2012.
Dr. Krause graduated in the top ten percent of his class at New York Medical School, achieving Alpha Omega Alpha distinction in 1985. He completed his surgical residency at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He did his fellowship training in cardiothoracic surgery at Cornell University Medical Center/New York Hospital and is board certified in both general and cardiothoracic surgery.
Prior to his current role at JCMC, Dr. Krause served as Chairman of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. Preceding this, he was Associate Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at St. Michael’s Medical Center in Newark. During this time, Dr. Krause found time to attend night school at Rutgers Law School in Newark, and was admitted into the New Jersey Bar Association in 2008.
Dr. Krause also has a strong interest in clinical research and education. He is the recipient of a National Institute of Health (NIH) grant to study religiosity and spirituality in cardiac surgery patients and has trained many residents in cardiothoracic surgery. His clinical interests include complex coronary bypass, aortic and mitral valve repair/replacement, aortic aneurysms, off-pump bypass and minimally invasive techniques. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and abstracts on topics including religious beliefs predicting surgical outcomes, quality of life following cardiac surgery, and inflammatory markers in acute myocardial infarction patients.
