Dr. Rachana A. Kulkarni serves as Regional Director of Cardiovascular Services for RWJBarnabas Health and Director of the Women’s Heart Center. Board certified in Cardiology and Nuclear Cardiology, she completed her training in internal medicine and cardiology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. A Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Society of Preventive Cardiology, she is recognized nationally for her work in preventive cardiology and heart disease in women. She has held leadership roles including Chief of Cardiology and Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, and President of the American Heart Association of New Jersey. Dr. Kulkarni has been widely published, has co-authored cardiology textbooks, and is a frequent lecturer both nationally and internationally.
Philosophy of Care:
Dr. Kulkarni believes that heart disease is largely preventable through risk factor modification and healthy lifestyle choices. She is committed to advancing women’s heart health, raising awareness, and providing patient-centered, evidence-based care that emphasizes prevention.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States in both men and women. As we celebrate American Heart Month, this show will focus on steps you can take to promote your heart health and reduce your risk factors and the services available to help you diagnose and treat heart disease. We will be joined by three cardiac experts from RWJBarnabas Health: Dr. Justin Fox, a board certified cardiologist and interventional cardiologist at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton; Dr. Leonard Y. Lee, a cardiac valve surgeon who is chief of Surgical Services at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick; and Dr. Rachana Kulkarni, a board-certified cardiologist with Medicor, a partner medical practice of RWJBarnabas Health who is on staff at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset. Dr. Kulkarni is currently the director of Community Cardiology and Preventative Health for RWJBarnabas Health’s Southern Region and a physician leader with the RWJBarnabas Health Women’s Heart Health Collaborative.
