  • Rabie M. Shanti, DMD, MD, is a fellowship-trained, board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon at Rutgers Health. He specializes in the evaluation and surgical management of benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck, with a focus on oral (mouth) cancer, jaw tumors such as ameloblastoma and osteosarcoma, and salivary gland tumors. He also treats inflammatory conditions of the jaws, including osteoradionecrosis (ORN) and medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). Before joining Rutgers, Dr. Shanti served as Assistant Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Otorhinolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was also Associate Director of the Head and Neck Cancer Service Line. His excellence in oncology care earned him the 2019 Physician Award in Relationship-Based Care Nursing Excellence and the 2021 Emil & Lynn Hubschman Award. In 2022, Dr. Shanti returned to Rutgers University as Director of Maxillofacial Oncology at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine and now serves as Director of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Training Program. Dr. Shanti’s research spans both clinical and translational science, with over 90 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. His work in oral oncology, ameloblastoma, and regenerative medicine has been supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health, Osteo Science Foundation, and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation. He received the Daniel M. Laskin Award for the most outstanding article published in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dedicated to education and mentorship, Dr. Shanti has earned multiple teaching honors, including the 2021 AAOMS Faculty Educator Development Award (FEDA).
