    Michael LaSalle, MD, Section Chief of Urology

    Dr. Michael D. LaSalle is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Urology/Surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) in Newark, New Jersey as well as a practicing urologic surgeon in Florham Park, New Jersey. He graduated as a George H Cook Honor’s Scholar from Cook College, Rutgers University in 1987. He obtained his medical degree at UMDNJ in 1991 and also completed his Surgery/Urology residency at UMDNJ in 1997. He received fellowship training at the Boston University School of Medicine in Male Reproductive Medicine, Erectile Dysfunction and Reconstructive Microsurgery in 1998. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Urology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

    Dr. LaSalle has co-authored over 30 research abstracts, publications and book chapters in peer reviewed journals and texts. He has received awards of distinction such as the SmithKline/Boston Biomedica Award, the American Academy of Pediatrics – Pediatric Urology Best Clinical Research Finalist and the Charles L. Brown Award for his basic science and clinical research contributions. He has been honored as one of New Jersey Monthly's Top Doctors for 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. Dr. LaSalle has lectured nationally on various aspects of urological surgery including erectile dysfunction, male factor infertility and microsurgery.

    After his fellowship at Boston University, Dr. LaSalle became the President and Founder of the Urology and Sexual Health Institute, P.A. in Florham Park, New Jersey established in 1998. For over ten years, Dr. LaSalle practiced general urology primarily at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey. In January 2008, Dr. LaSalle affiliated his practice with the New Jersey Center for Prostate Cancer and Urology. The group has expanded their extensive laparoscopic DaVinci robotic prostate cancer and minimally invasive laparoscopic surgical experience to include the Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey.

    Dr. LaSalle assisted with the successful clinical and educational launches of Pfizer’s blockbuster drug Viagra™ as well as GlaxoSmithKline / Bayer Corporation's Levitra™ and Eli Lilly / Icos Corporation's Cialis™ in collaboration with the internationally renowned Dr. Irwin Goldstein at the Boston University School of Medicine, Boston, Massachusetts. Utilizing pre and post operative penile rehabilitation protocols with these medications, various injectable erectogenic agents and the unique non-cautery athermal nerve sparing robotic surgical technique developed by Dr. Michael Esposito, the patients undergoing laparoscopic robotic assisted surgery for prostate cancer have a very high recovery rate of preoperative sexual function.
