  • Philosophy of Care:

I have two goals when I meet patients in the office. The first goal is to recommend the best possible treatment for their condition and the second is to help them better understand their condition and reasons for my recommendations.

My goals are based on my experience training in General Surgery and Thoracic Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where the founders’ philosophy was “the needs of the patient come first.” I use this philosophy during every patient interaction and when developing a personalized treatment strategy for each patient. I offer evidence based and guideline directed treatment plans that help achieve the best outcomes. When those treatment plans require multidisciplinary care, I help assemble that team, and if surgery is not the best option for a condition, I will help the patient find the treatment that is the best option.

Confronting a new diagnosis can be challenging on many levels. When I have discussions with my patients, I want them to feel informed about their diagnosis, how it is treated, and why we are making a certain plan together. Knowing the what of the diagnosis and the why of the treatment plan will hopefully relieve some of the uncertainty.
