Johanny M. Garcia, MD

Dr. Johanny Garcia is the Director of the Division of General Internal Medicine at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. In this capacity, she oversees and collaborates across the Medical Center, System and greater Newark community to build a model of primary care that is patient centered and focused on increasing access to preventive and chronic illness care. Her experience in this area includes designing and implementing models of care to address the needs of underserved minority communities, empowering community based organizations to do community based participatory research, developing culturally sensitive approaches to managing chronic illnesses and implementing innovative strategies to improve health care delivery.

Dr. Garcia completed her undergraduate work at Cornell University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She went on to University of Stony Brook School of Medicine where she completed her doctor of medicine with a distinction in research. She completed internal medicine residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital – Columbia University Campus. Dr. Garcia is a Board Member of COPE Center a community group that provides counseling, outreach and education to residents of New Jersey.
