    Bio
My primary objective is accurate diagnosis which allows us to explore all appropriate options for treatment. Some diagnoses lead to surgical options, many of which I now do microscopically to avoid a large incision and ensure a speedy recovery. Some lead to nonsurgical treatments such as medication, exercise, and physical therapy. My goal is to provide the best possible care regardless of the chosen method of treatment. The shoulder and knee are of special interest to me and there are many new procedures available for both. Arthroscopic knee surgery has led to advances in understanding knee pathology and pain generators. Patellar alignment and stability are now a focus of previously overlooked knee problems, especially in young women. New techniques for ACL reconstruction have led to better long term outcomes with a new emphasis on anatomic ligament placement to minimize the long term incidence of arthritis. To see one of my arthroscopic knee surgeries for a torn meniscus, click here. This is one of the most common causes of knee pain, and commonly called a 'torn cartilage'. The extensive use of arthroscopic surgery in the shoulder has revolutionized modern treatment of shoulder problems. Many areas that were poorly understood, and virtually un-treatable only 10 years ago, can now be fixed microscopically. To see one of my arthroscopic shoulder surgeries for repair of a severe rotator cuff tear, click here. To see the repair of a medium sized rotator cuff tear, click here. Commonly performed surgeries in my practice include: Knee: Arthroscopy of the knee to address meniscal tears, chondromalacia, torn ACL, and dislocating or malaligned patella. Shoulder: Arthroscopy of the shoulder to repair rotator cuff tears, labral tears, biceps tears, A.C. arthritis, and anterior labral repairs to correct instability from shoulder dislocations. Hand: Commonly performed hand surgeries include release of trigger finger, carpal tunnel release, and DeQuervains release. Tendon Ruptures: Repair of ruptured triceps, Achilles, patellar, and quadriceps tendons.
