RWJBarnabas Health, the largest integrated healthcare system in New Jersey, is currently seeking a board-certified or truly board-eligible psychiatrist to serve as the Medical Director of Psychiatric Emergency Screening Services (PESS) at RWJUH Somerset in Somerville, NJ. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a collaborative, multidisciplinary crisis evaluation program while providing high-quality psychiatric care to patients presenting to the Emergency Department with behavioral health emergencies.
The Medical Director partners closely with psychiatric screeners, emergency medicine physicians, nursing leadership, inpatient psychiatry, and community providers to ensure timely psychiatric evaluations, appropriate dispositions, and seamless transitions of care. Responsibilities include oversight of emergency psychiatric assessments and direct care, coordination of inpatient psychiatric admissions, facilitation of involuntary commitments when clinically indicated, and development of safe outpatient treatment plans for those discharged from the Emergency Department.

Qualifications:
- ABPN board-certified or truly board-eligible in General Psychiatry
- NJ licensed or eligible for licensure in NJ
- Ideally experienced working in a crisis setting
- Strong clinical leader with excellent communication skills
- High energy, adaptable, and ability to work on a team
Compensation:
The anticipated salary range for this position if hired to work is $315,000 to $445,000 per year.
The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate’s educational background, skills, and professional experience
