Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) is seeking an Assistant Professor of Surgery to join its nationally recognized Division of Cardiac Surgery as an Assistant Professor of Surgery. This is an outstanding opportunity to become part of one of the nation's premier academic cardiac surgery programs, practicing at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH)—New Jersey's leading academic medical center and the primary teaching hospital for Rutgers RWJMS. The program has earned the prestigious 3-Star Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) rating for both Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) and Aortic Valve Replacement (AVR), reflecting exceptional patient outcomes and quality of care. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital serves a population of more than 5 million residents and is home to numerous nationally recognized Centers of Excellence, including cardiovascular care, oncology, neurosciences, orthopedics, women's health, pediatric care, the Rutgers Cancer Institute, and New Jersey's only nationally ranked children's hospital affiliated with Rutgers.

Join an accomplished team of six cardiac surgeons performing approximately 2,000 cardiac surgical procedures annually while working alongside nationally recognized leaders in clinical care, education, and research. This position offers a dynamic academic environment with exposure to the full breadth of contemporary cardiac surgery and opportunities to develop expertise in advanced surgical techniques.

Position Highlights

  • Support primary surgeons, procurement coverage, and acute care cardiac surgery needs

    • Minimally invasive valve surgery and valve repair
    • Complex aortic surgery
    • Heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support
    • Robotic cardiac surgery
    • Transcatheter valve and structural heart procedures
  • Practice exclusively at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, a nationally recognized tertiary and quaternary referral center
  • Academic appointment at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School with opportunities for teaching, mentorship, and scholarly activity

Candidate Requirements

  • MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree
  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • Completion of an accredited Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship (or equivalent training)
  • Eligible for medical licensure in the State of New Jersey
  • Eligible for appointment as Assistant Professor of Surgery at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School
  • Commitment to excellence in patient care, education, and academic medicine

 

Compensation

The anticipated pay for this position if hired to work is Minimum of $453,605 annually.

The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate’s educational background, skills, and professional experience.
