Evidence-based model brings patients, support people and care teams together throughout labor and delivery

Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, has launched TeamBirth on September 15, 2026, an evidence-based model designed to strengthen communication, teamwork and shared decision-making among patients, their support people and their care teams throughout the childbirth experience.

TeamBirth, developed by Ariadne Labs, uses structured team huddles and a shared planning tool to ensure that patients have a voice in their care and that everyone involved in the birth has a shared understanding of the patient’s preferences, clinical status and care plan. The model supports patients to be as involved as they would like to be in decisions about their pregnancy, labor, delivery and postpartum care.
“At Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, we are proud to champion a culture where patients, families, nurses, and providers work together as one team to deliver world class care to all of our patients. The launch of TeamBirth represents an important step towards creating safer, more equitable, and more empowering birth experiences for families across the state,” said Darrell K. Terry, Sr., MHA, MPH, FACHE, FHELA, President and Chief Executive Officer of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey.
