Jersey City Medical Center congratulates Lashawn Overton, Trauma Patient Navigator, on being honored at the SCORES Reentry Second Chance Shero and Hero Award Ceremony on May 28, 2026.
The ceremony celebrated the resilience of honorees who are making a difference through second chances, community leadership and personal transformation. Lashawn was recognized for her perseverance, dedication to family and friends, and commitment to breaking generational cycles.
As a Trauma Patient Navigator, Lashawn provides support, guidance and advocacy for patients affected by interpersonal violence and traumatic injuries. She helps patients and families navigate the physical, emotional and social challenges that can follow trauma, while connecting them with resources that support healing, recovery and long-term stability.
Her work reflects Jersey City Medical Center’s commitment to caring for Hudson County beyond the hospital walls. Lashawn works closely with patients, families, medical professionals and community organizations to help address barriers such as mental health services, transportation, food assistance, victim compensation resources and access to community services.
Beyond her role at Jersey City Medical Center, Lashawn is a youth mentor, counselor and community leader who has worked with youth, justice-involved individuals and families throughout Hudson County. Her service reflects the spirit of the SCORES Reentry ceremony: honoring resilience, recognizing transformation and supporting people as they create new paths forward.
Her personal motto says it best: “Your past may explain your story, but it does not have to determine your future.”
Congratulations to Lashawn on this meaningful recognition and for continuing to represent Jersey City Medical Center through compassion, service and leadership in Hudson County.
