Distinguished Pediatric Cardiologist Dr. Shubhika Srivastava Joins RWJBH

Five to 10 out of every 100 children require cardiac care for congenital heart defects or acquired heart conditions that impact the life of the child and family from the antepartum stage to adulthood.

It is an honor to introduce Shubhika Srivastava, MD, FACC, FAAP, FASE, a distinguished pediatric cardiologist, who joined RWJBH on June 1, 2026, as chief of pediatric cardiology for the system and chair of pediatric cardiology for Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. She will lead the development of an integrated systemwide service that provides best-in-class pediatric cardiology care to children, as well as fetal diagnostic services to expectant mothers with fetuses that have known or suspected cardiac anomalies.

Dr. Srivastava is a national leader recognized for her strategic vision in developing high-quality clinical programs. Her professional brand is defined by a commitment to "fetus-to-adult" care, integrating innovative diagnostics and therapies to achieve superior outcomes across a patient’s lifespan. By establishing rigorous clinical standards and quality processes, she ensures that complex congenital heart disease is met with individualized, state-of-the-art care for every child and family. Dr. Srivastava’s areas of focused clinical interest include fetal cardiology, advanced echocardiography, complex congenital heart disease management, and clinical outcomes research.

Leadership and Research

Dr. Srivastava has played major leadership roles in national and international organizations, including the American Society of Echocardiography, the American College of Cardiology, Fetal Heart Society and the Society of Pediatric Cardiology Training Program Directors.

With over 100 peer-reviewed publications and roles on prestigious editorial boards, Dr. Srivastava continues to drive the national standards for excellence in pediatric cardiology. Her research and scholarly contributions include guideline development, multicenter studies and numerous publications, chapters and invited lectures in pediatric cardiology and cardiac imaging. She has been honored for her clinical excellence, teaching and service, including recognition as a Best Doctor and other awards for physician communication and leadership.

A cornerstone of Dr. Srivastava’s career is a dedication to education and mentoring the next generation of specialists. She is widely recognized for her commitment to mentorship, work on curriculum development, and efforts to improve training standards. She has had international impact in those areas as a co-founder of Empowering Hearts Globally, where she chairs the curriculum committee to build sustainable cardiac capacity worldwide.

Dr. Srivastava’s clinical leadership is backed by an elite academic foundation: She trained at Lady Hardinge Medical College, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (residency/chief residency), and the Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine (fellowship).
