Long Branch, NJ, June 3, 2025 — More than 150 guests came together May 17th at Monmouth Beach Bath & Tennis Club to “toast” the health of children in the community at Monmouth Medical Center’s (MMC) annual A Toast to Children’s Health event.
The $135,000 proceeds from this event will advance MMC's pediatric services in all areas, including emergency medicine, gastroenterology, neonatology, and psychiatry. As a premier facility, The Unterberg Children's Hospital, part of the Children’s Health network at RWJBarnabas Health, serves more than 7,500 children annually and is home to the only state-designated Children's Crisis Intervention Services in Monmouth and Ocean counties.
The event featured an Unterberg Children’s Hospital update by MMC’s Chair of Pediatrics Dr. Jonathan Teitelbaum and a moving patient testimonial video featuring pediatric gastroenterology patient Carly Goldberg. Dr. Teitelbaum, who also serves as section chief for Pediatric Gastroenterology, shared in opening his remarks that “as a pediatrician there is nothing more exciting than watching children grow and thrive, and with that, I am delighted to share how our pediatric program is growing and thriving.”
“Our gastroenterologists, pulmonologists, endocrinologists, infectious disease, intensivists, palliative care specialists, surgeons, and hospitalist specialists continue to provide outstanding care for the children in the community,” he said. “We just welcomed a pediatric GI psychologist, the first in NJ, who will help us care for children with disorders of gut brain interaction, like IBS, and pediatric gastroenterologist Dr. Alexander Schosheim has developed a collaboration with Children Specialized Hospital to help manage gastrointestinal problems in children with autism. Dr. Schosheim is the clinician who diagnosed and is managing the complex liver disease for tonight’s honoree Carly Goldberg, a remarkable young woman who has been able to face this condition head on and refuses to let it stop her from shining.”
